NITEK - CCTV Twisted Pair Video Solutions

The City of Omaha, Nebraska:

The following is information on the application and solution for the city of Omaha, Nebraska:

The application was for intersection monitoring at 18 traffic intersections throughout the city. Intersections were located as far as several miles from the head-end monitoring location. The project involved integrating the Econolite Autoscope system with Nitek video transmission systems for real-time video monitoring at each of the intersections.

The most cost-effective and convenient method to accomplish the video transmission for this project was to use the existing infrastructure, consisting of 19 gauge twisted pair cable. This cable had been previously used for various control applications, but was largely unused at this point and available for this project. The cable ran to and through every one of the intersections. It came into every traffic control box at each of the intersections, so the infrastructure for sending video back to the head-end was already in place.

The unique EX1120 system, capable of delivering color video at 9,000 feet (2,743 meters) was chosen to transmit the video. An EX1120 transmitter was located in the traffic control box, at each intersection where a camera was mounted. EX1120’s were configured to act as receive-transmit repeaters on the longest runs, to extend the maximum capability of the system (a total of several miles to the head-end). The repeaters were located in RK400 racks at the intersections. EX1120 receivers were installed at the head-end. The system was installed in the latter part of 2003 and according to the Econolite personnel, the system functions beyond expectations with excellent video quality. The customer is well pleased with the system.
